Nigeria-born British actress Wunmi Mosaku brings glory to Africa through her appearance as a cast member in Hollywood action horror film Sinners. The shining star is joined by other incredible talents in the forthcoming film, including fellow Black actors like Michael B. Jordan who stars in dual roles as identical twin brothers Elijah and Elias, Delroy Lindo, and Omar Benson Miller.
Sinners, a supernatural horror film from Warner Bros., takes us to the historical 1930s, where the past and present collide in a gripping tale. It follows a set of twins who return to their hometown in search of peace, only to be met by a force that has been waiting for their return. Set for official release in the second quarter of the year, the film seals another collaboration between the uber-talented Michael B. Jordan and visionary Black writer, co-producer, and director Ryan Coogler. Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler previously worked together on Black Panther, an American superhero film largely inspired by African and African-American cultures.
The inclusion of an actor of African descent, Wunmi Mosaku, in Sinners underscores the growing influence of African talent in global cinema. This addition highlights the increasing prominence of African culture and diverse storytelling in Hollywood, with Nigerian talent taking on pivotal roles alongside stars like Michael B. Jordan.
With Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan bringing both power and authenticity to the screen as Black entertainers, Sinners is a landmark moment for African representation in international films. The film beautifully intertwines culture, history, and human experience, offering a fresh perspective on legacy, identity, and the supernatural.
Sinners is Coogler’s fifth feature-length film and is also the filmmaker’s fifth collaboration with Michael B. Jordan whom he has a long-standing relationship. In a virtual interview that was shown around the world, including a private screening at Filmhouse, Lagos on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, Coogler said of his relationship with Jordan: “He’s got this incredible mix of talent and charisma…when you have someone who clicks with you, someone who understands you, it doesn’t feel like work.” He also described his film as “genre-bending, genre-fluid, and unique”.
Sinners hits cinemas on April 18, 2025, and promises to captivate audiences not only with its chilling narrative but also with the depth of African culture woven throughout its storytelling.
