On 18th to 19th November, 2025, the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), under the leadership of Husseini Shaibu, held the 5th edition of the Peace Anyiam-Osigwe Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference (NDCRC) to “chart the course for the future of Nigeria’s motion picture industry global competitiveness.” Themed “From Volume to Value: The Future of the Nigerian Motion Picture Industry in the Digital Age, the two-day conference attracted filmmakers, guilds and film professionals bodies, lawyers, industry players, and the media. Being a conference concerned about Nollywood’s future, a lot of ideas floated within and outside the conference hall. There were heated debates and important recommendations from panelists and participants.
In Culture Custodian’s report of the event, we noted that the curated panels and questions asked during the conference suggested the NFVCB’s grasp of industry issues and challenges. But, as one conference participant and our recap asked: what’s the utility of these conversations and panels outside the conference hall? What actionable plans and structures are being put in place to resolve these identified issues? Is it going to be the usual endless talking? There are a lot of relevant conversations and suggestions presented by the panelists, industry practitioners, and veterans. What’s important is putting them into action as the industry hopes to build a structure around Nigerian film guilds and professional bodies.
Seven months later, the NFVCB has a response: a Masterclass Series organized by the NFVCB. As a parastatal of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, and in fulfilment of its mandate to promote the growth, professionalism, and sustainable development of Nigeria’s film and audiovisual industry, the agency is organizing the maiden edition of the NFVCB Masterclass Series, “designed to equip practitioners with practical knowledge, professional skills, and industry insights necessary for success in the evolving digital creative economy.”
According to Shaibu, the Masterclass Series is a direct outcome of recommendations and requests from participants at the 5th edition of PAO NDCRC. “While the conference provided a platform for robust discussions on the future of Nollywood in the digital age, participants expressed the need for more practical and in-depth engagement on critical issues affecting content creators, filmmakers, producers distributors, and digital entrepreneurs,” the Executive Director shared.
The Masterclass Series will take place on July 13, 2026, with a focus on three key areas identified by industry stakeholders as essential to the growth and sustainability of the Nigerian film industry. Legal Issues in the Film Industry by Sandra Oyewole, Film and Content Monetization by Adetutu Laditan, and Production Standards and Best Practices by Femi Odugbemi.
The Masterclass and invited experts are expected to give participants access to expertise that is both practical and immediately applicable. This Masterclass is open to accredited and card-carrying members of each of the registered guilds and associations under the Federation of Registered Nollywood Guilds and Associations. Interested members of the registered guilds and associations are encouraged to contact their respective guild head. Other interested participants can register and they will receive an invitation to attend after registration.
