Obasanjo’s Internet – Chiby

Posted on

Did you know that there are approximately 4.66 billion active internet users worldwide? Can you imagine all the different ways in which we all use the internet? Obasanjo’s Internet is our interview series where we speak to some of our internet favourites on how they relate to the internet and what it means to them and their work. This week, Chiby talks to us about how he uses Obasanjo’s Internet.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

I go for my phone mostly, then I hit the gym.

How do you use the internet for work or pleasure?

Both. My job requires me to be on the internet, so I use it for pleasure and work.

What moment or episode in your life would you say captured the essence of the internet?

I had just started my Sponsor A Child project for Meadow Hall Foundation. Money had been donated for about 9 students for the session then, and honestly I felt content at that point. I thought that was the end but Twitter came in full swing; donations kept coming in. I was in awe and so so surprised. It felt really good. A lot more partnerships came my way because of that moment and I’m forever grateful.

Your favourite social media platform and why?

Twitter and Reddit. There’s just always something going on on Twitter, you’ll find people acting a fool, gossip, there’s always just some sort of banter going on everyday on Twitter, from football, to someone coming out to ignorantly say something with confidence. Reddit gives me a lot of perspective on different issues. On Reddit, people properly articulate their thoughts and properly reason  with what’s going on so I tend to enjoy seeing a lot of people have different opinions unlike Twitter where everyone is trying to attack and bring you down without trying to understand the reason behind your actions.

What was the last meme you saved?

Do you remember the first time something you posted went viral? What was it? How did it make you feel?

Yes actually. I tweeted about how most families tend to put on the gen by 7pm and if there was a law or rule about that, and it went viral. I was shocked because that was my first ever viral tweet, this was in 2016 and I just wanted to know why. I was happy people found the tweet amusing and agreed with it though.

What’s the most outrage you have ever generated over something you posted? How did you react to it?

It was over this tweet.

I was shocked people were fighting for the right to invade people’s spaces in the gym and it was mostly from people who haven’t worked out a day in their lives.

What rules do you live by on the internet?

Mind your business, try not to talk too much because one day e go over you mehn.

What is your guiltiest online pleasure?

Going through relationship problems on Reddit just for the gossip. I love seeing people write about their mystery problems.

Would you say you have an online persona?

Kind of, I’m more outgoing on social media.

What’s your favourite emoji and why?

It’s 😂. I feel like it captures everything, you could be laugh-crying, cry-laughing, it just captures every emotion, happy, sad, it’s perfect.

Are you particular about your feed?

Not really.

Youtube or TikTok? Which do you prefer and why?

YouTube because I’m a big Marvel fan, and most of the Marvel reactions or analysis of videos or movies are usually on YouTube and thats where I go to watch my MCU scoop.

Which Nigerian creator do you think the world needs to see and hear more of?

Ajibola Grey, Igbo Wolf, Agba, Sonariwo, Cliff, Rotimi Alabi (Chez Ro), my baby girl, Ifeoma (sunflower), Wumi Tuase, Dare Olaitan and Kah-Lo.

Who is the coolest person you follow and the coolest person who follows you?

The coolest person I follow is my girlfriend, the coolest person that follows me is my girlfriend.

What is your favourite Nigerian podcast?

Submarine And A Roach.

Have you ever hooked up with someone you met online?
