Obasanjo’s Internet – Kojoo

Posted on

Did you know that there are approximately 4.66 billion active internet users worldwide? This makes the internet, one of the greatest tools and catalysts for the advancement of humanity. Our new column, Obasanjo’s Internet documents the internet habits and methods of some of our favourite creators and thinkers.

Today, we are joined by co-host of the Submarine And A Roach podcast, Kojoo as he tells us his favourite things about the internet.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?

Complain that God has decided to keep me alive an extra day and then I head to my desk because I have an 8:30 am scrum every day. The first thing I do every morning is probably snooze my alarm now that I think about it.

How do you use the internet: for work or pleasure?

Currently? Mostly work. When I’m not working, I mostly use it as a distraction, I listen to random YouTube content so there’s voices in “real life” drowning out the voices in my head.

What moment or episode in your life would you say captured the essence of the internet?

I don’t have a specific moment but every time I have a random thought, I search it in the Twitter search bar and I find that other people have had this exact thought or variations of it. The last thing I searched on Twitter was “peer pressured alive” because I randomly thought about how a lot of people are probably still alive due to peer pressure and there were a couple tweets about that. Just before that I had searched “buying domain names high” because I randomly buy domain names when I’ve had a lil’ something and I was trying to figure out if there were other people like me out there. There are! The Internet basically reminds me that there’s other people like me out there.

Your favourite social media platform and why?

Has to be Twitter. Because I love watching people tweet through hurt, it’s awkward to make a video while you’re crying and hurting but you can tweet through it and I’ll still know your screen is covered in snot and tears, it’s beautiful.

What was the last meme you saved?

Do you remember the first time something you posted went viral? What was it? How did it make you feel?

One time I put out a tweet that said  “Abraham’s blessing are mine” then someone re-tweed it with “*blessings” and I retweeted his response with “baba nah only one I want. Wetin consine you?” Till this day I don’t know why that tweet was so funny I basically just wanted him to fuck off.

What’s the most outrage you have ever generated over something you posted? How did you react to it?

I laughed at a picture of an aborted foetus. Someone posted a picture, apparently they had found an aborted foetus behind their house. It was about the size of a rat and I just thought the whole thing was so funny. I was very confused as to why people were mad at me, that’s honestly one of the reasons why my twitter is private these days. I just wanna be able to laugh in peace.

What rules do you live by on the internet?

Don’t be afraid to tell a lie if that lie is funny.

What is your guiltiest online pleasure?

Lying.

Would you say you have an online persona?

Nah not really. I’m pretty much the same person online and offline. A difference though, is I’m more willing to engage with strangers offline than online. Everyone online is a troll.

What’s your favourite emoji and why?

🤪 – because it’s silly and you can get away with saying the most depressing thing cos everyone thinks you’re joking.

Are you particular about your feed?

Nah, my feed is basically a scrapbook. Most pictures on my Instagram are posted within minutes of being taken.

YouTube or TikTok? Which do you prefer and why?

YouTube, because it’s long form. I spend a lot of time watching interviews and documentaries.

Which Nigerian creator do you think the world needs to see and hear more of?

Super biased but it’s TMT. I’m very fascinated by how his mind works and I think a lot more people need to experience it.

What is your favourite Nigerian podcast?

ISWIS, I really enjoy OffAir with Gbemi & Toolz as well.

Have you ever hooked up with someone you met online?

Stop playing, I’ve been on Twitter since secondary school and I think Twitter is the greatest dating app ever.
