OK Effect: Celebrating Resilience And Joy Through Photography

Ogidika Kelvin, a 25-year-old Nigerian photographer and creative director, also known as OK Effect, sees his camera as a “passport to see the world”. His work involves traveling across different countries and documenting the luxurious lifestyle of every day people and celebrities.

The EFFECTIVE exhibition is a contemporary art approach to rising through the dust against all odds.

OK Effect’s photography showcases Africa’s greatest exports; its people and values, which are an essential part of the culture. He tells the story of what makes people who they are, by using freeze frames from critical moments in the lives of celebrities and viral sensations. OK Effect focuses on lifestyle photography to showcase happy moments and spread positivity through art. “There are already many amazing photographers documenting real-life issues from a tragic or suspense-filled angle. I just want to create images that are larger than life”

Over the years, OK Effect has built an impressive list of clients that range from international football stars such as Raheem Sterling and Tammy Abraham to Hip-Hop powerhouses like Young Thug and Wiz Khalifa and Afrobeats legends like Burnaboy, Wizkid, and Davido, among others. He captures moments that we may miss in our hurried and busy lives. 

OK Effect’s second exhibition took place on May 4, 2023, at the Rare Gallery in Cape Town, South Africa with his photographs portraying iconic individuals in different settings.

 

WIZKID [No smoke without fire]

When asked in a recent interview about why his recent success doesn’t come as a surprise, Wizkid credits his hardwork and intentionality towards getting those results, hence, it was an expected end result.

A statement on preserving vim and vigor against all odds. This image captures the talented dancer Poco Lee who made it out of the slums of Ojo, Lagos Nigeria through his bubbly personality. He’s well known for his unexplainable and energetic dance steps and exciting  personality that has taken him all around the world

A woman’s body is a sacred temple, a work of art and a life-giving vessel. From her milk, she can nourish and heal her own child from a variety of ailments. She reflects divinity in her essence, care, and wisdom.

To create something from nothing is one of the greatest feelings. True devotion and humility are when you carelessly allow yourself to fall in love with things you consider will make you look inferior, which in essence, makes you superior.
