Olamide and Phyno represent the East and West but have never let their geographical differences stop them from embracing one another and forming one of the most interesting relationships in modern Nigerian hip-hop. On their latest collaboration, Road 2 Russia (Dem Go Hear Am), they make an attempt at creating a Nigerian World Cup anthem, the only problem is we thought we already had one in Issa Goal.
Yeah, we appreciate the patriotism and all but this is a record that is too complex that almost nobody is actually going to get behind as we remain hopeful the Super Eagles will put on an inspired run in Russia on the backs of the ‘youngest’ World Cup side. A potential anthem has to be easy enough to follow and leverage language that is closely related to the topic, but Young Jonn produced Road 2 Russia (Dem Go Hear Am) is a clumsy attempt at doing so.
