Emory University, Atlanta’s highest ranked university recently became victims of a booking agency scam. The university’s Student Programming Council (SPC) had announced that Migos shall headline its annual Dooley’s Week Concert, however, 10 days ahead of what was thought to be a set event, SPC revealed that they had been scammed by a booking agency known as Global Talent Agency.

Earlier in March when the university’s SPC announced Migos as headliners of their concert the announcement was met with enthusiasm by the student population who saw it as an embrace of black culture and rap music ahead of Electronic Music which has typically been the norm. In under two days, the RSVP system which allowed guest attendance had a lengthy wait list as Emory students and their friends far and wide planned to attend what was billed to be the highlight of a number of student’s time at the university.

On March 29th however, the SPC revealed that they had been in interaction with what they had now discovered to be a fraudulent agency. After discovering a double booking for Migos at a concert on April 8 in Mississippi, SPC attempted to reach out to the third-party agency they had made payments to to clear the air and potentially reschedule the Dooley’s Week Concert for the 7th of April. Efforts to reach out to the agency were without avail and that was when Emory’s representatives realized they had been subject to a scam.

Rumors on the exact value of the deposit paid have surfaced with figures from $60,000 to $100,000 being circulated however, we gather that the figure stands in the region of $70,000.

At the moment, SPC is working on finding a replacement artist while Emory University intends to legally take on Global Talent Agency who seem to have mastered this scamming act as they also reportedly got paid by Ball State University for a Chance The Rapper performance on the same date, April 8th.
