The Nigerian music industry pivoting towards a fusion of artists from different generations is one of its most endearing phenomenons today. From Sound Sultan to 2Baba and even Bantu Music and Paul Play among others, the feelings of nostalgia inspired by the music dished out by these legends surmounts the quality of the new music released and heightens anticipation per release. Weeks ago, we witnessed Paul Play make a return with a Runtown assisted remix of the timeless Angel Of My Life, with no time to waste in his comeback, he returns this week accompanied by Nonso Amadi on Kolo also produced by the young sound genius.
Nonso Amadi leads the lovestruck duo on the silky single, delivering a heartfelt verse that serves as a statement of intent to his muse over an atmospheric instrumental flavored by a sampling of Paul Play’s Forever that softens the edges of the already whispery single. Paul Play joins the party on the second verse, dishing out a dulcet-y performance that reminds us why he’s an RnB great.
Of the class of old-timers returning to the industry, Paul Play sets himself apart with retention of the qualities including his syrupy vocals, that made him so special in the first place.
