The Prophets of Rage have released a new single with the title, Pop Goes the Weapon, an intelligent play on words of popular nursery rhyme Pop Goes The Weasel.  It is a socially conscious single along with a video which “reflects the ongoing gun violence happening in America.”

The revolutionary super group which consists of Tom Morello, Tim Commerford, Brad Wilk, Chuck D, B-Real and DJ Lord use this rap song with grisly lyrics to explore the rampant shootings in many parts of America. The verses culminate in the chorus ,which mimics the sound of a gunshot, pop.

The video to Pop Goes The Weapon features a list of the shooting dates and their locations alongside the number of killings and injuries, which runs through out the video. With background pictures and videos of guns, people shooting and the murderers. The video closes with the names of victims recently shot, scrolling through the screen.

According to Tom Morello, Pop Goes The Weapon channels our “thoughts & prayers” through Marshall stacks & microphones”.
