2018 has been a coming of age year for a myriad of Nigerian artistes who now cross the borders of our norms to swim in unconventional waters, diving to the roots of their artistry to draw inspiration. Mavin Records Reekado Banks who constantly assumes a shy stance in the majority of his visual works is one of the multitude of Nigerian artistes that has utilized unconventional means in promotion of his craft. After teasing a clip on his Instagram profile earlier this week, he finally releases the video for just released hit single; Blessings On Me along with his first ever short film directed by Adasa Cookey for same song.

The 11 minutes long film filled with scenes that adorn the actual video for the track is a heartwarming fictional narration of the background story that inspired its creation; a cued up encounter with poverty, despair, hardwork and eventual success.

Adopting the serene streets of Lagos suburbs as his backdrop, Reekado narrates a story that is all too common with the masses in Nigeria; a cliche but a reality which he soundtracks in the landscape video for the track; a montage of the main cast’s actions throughout the short film.

Reekado Banks might still be in the experimental stage of his new found craft which isn’t stirred far from his usual delivery in visual works but it goes without saying the short film wasn’t all bad and the actual video is a standard effort.
