In what was one of Lagos’ most exclusive cultural gatherings this year, Rolling Stone Africa launched Culture in the Room on June 20, bringing together creators, entrepreneurs, executives and policymakers for an invitation-only celebration of African creativity. Organised in partnership with Martell, the event combined performances, awards, networking and conversations on the future of Africa’s creative industries.

One of the highlights of the evening was the exclusive Martell VIP Lounge, where guests gathered for conversations, networking and celebrations throughout the night. Created as part of Martell’s partnership with Rolling Stone Africa, the space reflected the house’s long-standing focus on celebrating cultural achievement and the people behind it. The lounge became a meeting point for creators, entrepreneurs and industry leaders, with guests including Rick Swart, United States Consulate General in Lagos, Dare Art Alade, Tiwa Savage, Bloody Civilian, D’banj, Korty EO, Lola Rae, Ozinna Anumudu and Blvnde.

Speaking at the gathering, Ikechukwu Agu, Commercial Director at Pernod Ricard Nigeria, said the partnership reflected Martell’s commitment to recognising individuals whose work continues to shape culture. “Our partnership with Rolling Stone Africa reflects a shared commitment to recognising individuals whose dedication to their craft and lasting cultural impact continue to inspire progress,” he said.

The programme also featured opening remarks by Rolling Stone Africa’s Senior Vice President, Itohan Barlow, the unveiling of the publication’s latest cover featuring actor Boris Kodjoe, the Mwankom Vanguard Awards, a documentary screening, the Next Generation Spotlight on rising talents across music, fashion and film, and performances by Emma Drumz, Jire Smith and Amma.

At the Mwankom Vanguard Awards, Davido received the Music Award for his contribution to African music and cultural impact, while Dammy Twitch received the Visual Storytelling Award for his contribution to African visual storytelling.
The inaugural edition of Culture in the Room marks the beginning of what Rolling Stone Africa hopes will become a recurring platform for celebrating African creativity and fostering connections across the continent’s cultural industries.
