Ruger Releases First Single Of The Year, “Jonzing Boy”

Posted on

Nigerian afropop and afrodancehall star Ruger has begun his 2023 campaign with the single Jonzing Boy. The song follows Red Flags and Asiwaju, the second of which was one of the highlights in the Nigerian music industry last year.

Jonzing Boy is produced by Kukbeat, the record producer behind some of Ruger’s biggest hits, such as Dior and Bounce  marking a new chapter in their artistic partnership. The song’s title alludes to the name of Ruger’s record label- D’Prince’s Jonzing World. Jonzing World takes its roots in 2010’s Jonzing Worlda collaborative effort with Wizkid and Jesse Jagz. D’Prince through Jonzing World staked his claim as one of the finer talent spotters of the Afrobeats age by giving Rema and Ruger their breaks. Ruger’s affiliation takes shape with a partnership between D’Prince’s Jonzing World and Sony Music Entertainment UK, in a joint venture with Columbia Records.

Jonzing Boy, riding on a slow, groovy beat, sees Ruger continue the strain of youthful braggadocio common to his songs. The song also sets the stage for Ruger’s forthcoming debut album, which he hopes to add to a discography comprising several singles and three EPs.
