Identity is steeped in diversity, just the same way diversity carries authority, relevance, and an amazing awe-factor in music industries around the world today. Currently littered with talents with a lot to offer, the Nigerian music industry is characterized by a myriad of artists touting experimentalism, which feeds diversity, as a selling point. Canada based Nigerian singer, Shaykeh, is one of them, and on her debut LP, The Subtle Art Of Seduction, she harnesses composed inflections as she touches on coquettish themes, exploring different genres ranging from Afro Soul, Afro-Latino, RnB, and Dancehall in a bid to showcase her artistic diversity and reach her listeners in unexplainable ways.
Over the course of nine tracks, Shaykeh draws from her own escapades and scrutiny to create a distinct blend of romantic, seductive, passionate music. “All the records have a universal seductive effect. Not only from what the lyrics were saying but also from the way they were delivered. Even when the words are not seductive, the vocal texture is, hence the use of the word seduction in the title. They all have the power to pull you in and grasp your attention.” Shaykeh muses, on the LP’s being.
From the mind-bending chant, that made her debut single, Till the morning, stand out, Shaykeh has moved with poise on more recent releases. Unfolding her come-hither mien on the pacific Shank-succoured Next To Me, the enthralling Show Dem Camp assisted Barbados, and Flamenco guitar infused Mr Romantic, three tracks on The Subtle Art Of Seduction that carry the weight of her elegance, she moves in an upward direction.
