By any yardstick, Tekno owned 2016. He put out hits like Where, Pana, Diana and Rara and saw them rise to the top of the charts one after the other. He was also nominated for the highly sought-after, Next Rated award at the Headies but got disqualified for failure to take part in photo-sessions, interviews and other activities in the run-up to the awards ceremony proper.
All the strides Tekno made were under the imprint of Made Men Music Group however, in 2017, Culture Custodian has gathered reports that, Tekno will depart the Triple MG record label to set up his own record label alongside Upfront and Personal Global Management Consultants who have acquired 50% of the label Tekno shall float in 2017.
Tekno’s collaboration with Upfront and Personal is not new as Tekno’s Sony deal in November 2016 was brokered by the global consultancy brand.
With Tekno’s departure from MMMG, the record label shall now hold only Selebobo of note. Losing its two cash cows in Iyanya and now Tekno will definitely hurt the record label however, important questions need to be raised as to why the label cannot retain any of it’s more successful acts and what it ought to do to stem the trend.
