Ahead of its hotly anticipated sequel Living in Bondage: Breaking Free, Playnetwork Africa and Natives Filmwork have uploaded the Nollywood classic drama-thriller Living in Bondage on Youtube.
The film follows Andy Okeke, a man discontent with his financial status. He compares himself to men who have cars, big houses and wear the trendiest clothes. His discontentment grows when he meets an old friend Paul who is now rich. After some deliberation, Paul tells Andy the source of his wealth – money ritual that involves sacrificing a loved one. Reluctantly, Andy agrees to sacrifice his wife Merit. Although he got the wealth and status he’s always craved, his life becomes turbulent. The ghost of his wife begins to haunt him. After much suffering, he encounters an old friend who leads him to Christ and saves his life.
Living in Bondage was released in 1992 and is credited as revolutionizing the distribution model of Nigerian films. It was directed by Chris Obi Rapu and written by Okechukwu Ogunjiofor and Kenneth Nnabue. It also catapulted Kenneth Okonkwo (who played Andy Okeke), Bob Manuel and Kanayo Kanayo to stardom.
The sequel which opens in cinemas from November 8 is directed by Ramsey Nouah and the story centers on Andy’s son, Nnamdi Okeke, who like his father has an insatiable hunger for wealth.
