Tobe Nwigwe Brings Southern Sound to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert

Nigerian-American rapper Tobechukwu “Tobe” Nwigwe is a rising star coming out of Houston, Texas. The Houston-raised rapper is the latest artist to grace NPR’s TIny Desk Concert Series – a video series of live concerts hosted by NPR Music at the desk of All Songs.

The artist turned the Tiny Desk event into a family affair, bringing with him, wife Fats Nwigwe and their seven week old daughter. Nwigwe opened with Houston Tribute an ode to the city that raised him. The musician also performed other of his soulful hits like; Caged Birds, Against the Grain and Shine. The singer ended his 15 minute session with his latest hit I’m Dope.

Tobe Nwigwe makes known his love for southern style music and expressed gratitude to the likes of Erykah Badu and Dave Chapelle for making him confident in his decision to pursue rapping.
