Tobi Bakre and 11 Other Africans Join 2024 Berlinale Talents

Nigerian actor Tobi Bakre has  been selected alongside 11 other African talents as part of 202 participants for the 2024 Berlinale Talents. The Berlinale Talents, which is part of the annual Berlinale Film Festival, is scheduled for February 17 – 22, 2024.

Also selected from Nigeria are film critic and journalist, Ini-Abasi Jeffrey, and Linda Leila Diatta. Other Africans are Niza Jay(South Africa), Wangechi Ngugi (Kenya), Maisha Maene (DR Congo), Advik Beni (South Africa), Aline Amike (Rwandan-born selected for Germany), Chloé Ortolé (Senegal), Slim Baccar (Tunisia), Fatima Wardy (Sudanese born selected from the US) and Morad Mostafa (Egypt). 

 

The 2024 Berlinale Talents will host 202 filmmakers (116 female, 76 male, 10 diverse) from 68 countries, connecting them with the film industry and the Berlinale audience through workshops and a series of conversations based on the theme “Common Tongues – Speaking Out in the Language of Cinema”. The participants’  six-day sojourn will expose them to one of the world’s most active film communities that has almost 10,000 across all continents. 

The organizers of Berlinale Talents initially received a record number of 3,832 applications from 131 countries, from which participants were shortlisted. Participants were chosen for their contributions in the disciplines of cinematography, acting, directing, film journalism, film distribution, sound design, set and digital set design, screenwriting, production, film editing, score composition, world sales and audience design.

Berlinale Talents is the annual talents development programme of the Berlin International Film Festival organized for selected film professionals and cinema lovers from different parts of the world.
