Thanks to artists like budding Abuja based drill rapper Tomi Obanure, drill music is one of the fastest rising sub-genres within Nigerian Rap. With two singles and the No Rest For the Wicked EP released in 2020, he is back with a new project titled I’ll Sleep When I am Dead (ISWID).
The two-track project serves as a timestamp for where the upcoming rapper is as he begins his foray, properly this time, into music. This is a body of work birthed in the grind, the highs and lows of making it as a hip-hop artist in Nigeria. It comes across as hungry and rightfully so as Obanure battles to be heard in a country predominantly dominated by Afro-beats.
For him, the title – I’ll Sleep When I am Dead is a personal challenge as he determined to go harder than ever before. He pours this energy into the Heavy Hitta Freestyle and Midnight; the two songs on the project. Watch the official music video for Midnight below:
