The phenomenon of collaborations is not new to the world of music. It is always exciting when our favourite artists come together to create magic blessed by the hands of the music gods. The year was full of many of such collaborations and as we gradually enter the last weeks and days of 2018, we take a look back at the Collabs that marked the year. *Disclaimer** This does not include songs by label mates and goes in no particular order.
Fake Love- Starboy ft. Duncan Mighty and Wizkid
This major hit blared through every speaker in the country for several months unending. Duncan Mighty teaming up with Wizkid for his to return to the mainstream music scene resulted in what has to be one of the best comeback songs in the Nigerian music industry.
Alte Cruise- Odunsi the Engine ft. Santi and Zamir
With Nigerian music swiftly entering a new era, 2018saw the major faces of the “Alte movement” come together for this anthem.
Amaka- 2baba and Peruzzi
After all these years down the line, 2baba is showing the younger ones in the industry how its done and how he is not letting up anytime soon. His monster jam alongside Perruzi left everyone raising their brows in suspicion at every lady named Amaka this year as their love interest, according to the song was full of disappointments.
Bad Energy- Skepta ft. Wizkid
The list would not be complete without mentioning this anthem. Bad Energy reminds us to keep the negativity out of the way and focus on the positive. We hope to see more song collaborations between the two artists in 2019 . The song was definitely a mantra for 2018 which will be taken into the coming year for sure.
Lova Lova-Tiwa Savage ft. Duncan Mighty
Duncan Mighty once again sprinkles his magic on the hit song by Mavin Record’s first lady proving that he could do no wrong. The song is arguably his best feature of 2018.
Legbegbe- Mr Real Ft. Obadice and Idowest
Yes the song was released in back in 2017 but that didn’t stop it from being one of the hottest Collabs in 2018. The song was actually our introduction to the raspy voice of Mr. Real which at the beginning of 2017, we didn’t think we would be hearing a lot of in 2018.
Aza- DMW ft. Davido, Duncan Mighty and Perruzi
The DMW boys had an all around amazing 2018 whether it was coming together(their collabs could have made the list but we’ll check out the disclaimer) on a song or working on their individual projects. On Aza, they enlist high life king, Duncan Mighty who also had an equally amazing comeback year full of great collabs.
Able God- Chinko Ekun ft. Lil Kesh, Zlatan
Since its release, this song has gone on to place itself as a top street anthem as some have called it the mood for the rest of 2018 and 2019. It also gave us brand new dance moves which we would be taking with us into 2019. The lyrics of the song has come under fire for its promotion of fraud but it still continues to enjoy airplay.
Issa Goal- Naira Marley ft. Olamide and Lil Kesh
Though released in 2017, Issa Goal quickly and coincidentally went on to become the unofficial song of the 2018 World Cup for the Super Eagles. I bet you didn’t know the Super Eagles did commission an official song for the World Cup which was Dem Go Hear Am by Olamide and Phyno.
Diet- DJ Enimoney ft. Slimcase, Tiwa Savage and Reminisce
This super mash up of artists took the Shaku Shaku movement to new heights with this song during the first course of the year.
