Toye Aru being an eclectic Producer on this rise, always runs through a gamut of sounds sometimes charged with heavy rhythms like on Illbliss’s Country, sometimes with more hedonic appeal as with his just-released collaboration with Beulah, What You Want, a slow burner complete with the trappings of topnotch serenades.
Built on soft-sounding acoustics bursting with sensual feelings, What You Want is a vibrant track with a chorus that does more for Beulah’s intentions than the rest of the song. “Are you down? Is my crown, you make me want to take it off, you don’t know what you want” is Beulah’s way of going through the motions in an unbalanced relationship she’s in, but more specifically, it is about taking the lead and setting priorities in relationships in which obvious power dynamics are present.
In the accompanying video directed by Toye Aru, a role that speaks to his versatility, Beulah takes center stage, mirroring her emotions in a series of dimly lit but sharp scenes that capture the airs she emits and makes it an enrapturing experience.
