Malaika, a film produced by veteran actress and filmmaker Toyin Abraham and directed by Steve Sodiya, will be available in the UK cinemas from January 5, 2024.
Since its official premiere on December 17, 2023 and release in Nigeria cinemas from December 22, 2023, Malaika has enjoyed some box office success, accumulating over 143 million naira in its first 10 days in the domestic cinemas and finishing as the second highest grossing Nollywood film of 2023.
Distributed in Nigeria by FilmOne Entertainment, the Nollywood blockbuster stars Toyin Abraham, Emeka Ike, Ibrahim Chatta, Muyiwa Ademola, Uzor Arukwe, Odunlade Adekola, Carter Efe, Peju Ogunmola, Dele Odule, Sisi Quadri and Ugandan entertainer Anne Kansiime, among others. The plot is about a woman who struggles to cope with her infertility and anger issues. While surrounded by a supportive family and loved ones, she decides to undertake a transformative spiritual adventure.
In the UK, Malaika will be released across Odeon cinema locations and is distributed by Independent Film Exhibition Consultancy (IFEC).
