Of late, the 44DB music collective have set themselves apart for their grasp of the pulse of a refreshing wave within the music industry by leveraging constituent subcultures. The collective consists of Tochi Bedford, KD, Dera, Been, Johnson IP, Malik Bawa and most prominently, Trill XOE
Building on the success of Declan Rice, Lucent helps highlight Trill XOE’s strengths as a producer and tastemaker while also acting as a coming out party of sorts. A self taught producer in his teens, he also explored his musical interests playing the drums at church. This would lead to attempts at reproducing the beats of songs he admired, such as Chief Keef’s Love Sosa. Though he started out as a hip-hop producer in Nigeria, an educational journey to Mauritius would also improve his sonic palate and exploring unique sounds from different parts of Africa.
Citing Kanye West, RZA, Travis Scott, Mike Dean and Sarz as some of his greatest influences, Trill Xoe is hopeful about becoming one of the best sound producers. He has mastered the hard-key blasts on the South African house beats and the soft guitar strumming of Afrobeats love tunes, giving a clue as to further paths for experienting. Lucent contains six tracks, and is produced by Trill Xoe and JohnWav while featuring contributions from PsychoYP, WANI, Azanti, and Mahgi.
