One of the greatest things about the latest class of musicians to emerge in the Nigerian music industry is their keen use of imagery and its role in conveying the intricacies of the music. To celebrate the one-year anniversary of her debut, Bri’s Lounge, Dami Oniru stars in a music video/ short film that effectively meshes three songs, Alive, Higher, and Ready, off the projectto form a cohesive message.
The Ademola Falomo-directed video takes us through Dami Oniru’s five shades of the dealing with grief as rightly underpinned by her looks in each sequence. The most important parts are the beginning where she is sobbing, alone, in a room as she comes to terms with the scope of her pain. The instance is followed by a visit to the cemetery where she seemingly has a rebirth.
The closing sequence is of her, now fierce, refusing to be taken for a fool. “You don’t want to mess with a girl,” Dami Oniru warns. And she means it, shattering a man’s car to prove her point.
