Prior to the latest episode of the Loose Talk Podcast which saw Osagie Alonge and Ayomide Tayo of Pulse Nigeria chop it up with Chocolate City President and Vice President, M.I Abaga and Loose Kaynon, CKay was the name of one of those Nigerian artists you had probably heard of but never listened to. After Osagie controversially blurted “Who The Fuck is CKay?”, much to the dismay of his Chocolate City counterparts, the producer has gotten a lot more coverage than he’s normally used to.
On the six track EP, Ckay begins with Winner a nostalgic and fun song which taps famous church song. He additionally taps Bella Alubo and Dice Ailes and delivers two solo tracks.
While it is smart to release the music while he remains the centre of attention, this EP is unlikely to win him fans in the manner MI spoke of during the Loose Talk podcast. The reality is, CKay would have been better off attempting to win the market over with one well delivered single as opposed to an EP, considering we know the Nigerian industry doesn’t exactly gravitate towards projects.
Then again, with the fact that he recently released Gaddemit featuring Dremo recently which was exactly that, it makes sense to take a no holding back approach and let the music flow.
That said, this hastily put together at releasing music betrays the lack of structure and thinking M.I tried to allude to in the interview. It would have made more sense to continue the artist development process as opposed to this transparent attempt at winning new fans with a very weak effort.
