Turntable, the innovative music chart publication company, responsible for publishing the most revered music charts in Nigeria, recognized ZahZah as a key feature in their list of eleven acts to watch out for in 2021, following the exceptional performance of the singer’s 2020 summer anthem, Miss You, across charts. In their accompanying piece, they observed that ZahZah has always “straddled between underground notoriety and mainstream popularity.” and with this acclaimed single leading the way, his just-released self-titled debut EP, ZahZah, tips the scales in favor of a possible initiation into the latter.

Stoking anticipation for the five-track EP, Miss You, its lead single, enjoyed a good run in the last half of 2020. It was released in August, just in time to rock open spaces and summer-themed playlists with its sunny melody. Even as a song about missing one’s old lover, the events of the year sparked its resonance in the hearts of listeners. An emotive aura that forbears the entire EP.

The fullness of the contemporary Nigerian experience collapses into ZahZah, marrying the singer’s experience and desires with the revolving theme in the industry. At times introspective and bubbly, it is finely cut from the Afro Pop tradition: percussive and immersive, crafted for fun times and a roomful of bodies.

ZahZah’s inclusion of some of the industry’s finest in the EP’s creation, allows their collective mastery to help the songs segue seamlessly into one another, as they offer a snapshot of his heart like he’s never shown before.

Surely, ZahZah’s heart is in all the right places. A listen to the eponymously titled EP only introduces his person through his most beloved medium: music.
