With a number of releases under his belt responding to hate, Shatta Wale has paid excessive attention to naysayers and “haters” with songs like Blogger, Haters and now See Da Fool. His latest release once again mocks detractors in his signature dancehall delivery (this time produced by Willis Beats). I cannot help but ask myself, “Is shatta Wale the new old Timaya?”
No matter how brilliant an artist is, a constant barrage of the same ‘issue’ eventually gets stodgy. It also shows the absence of an elite mentality seeing as haters will always exist and a desire to respond to them isn’t what one of a country’s biggest acts should be overly focussed on. That is why diversity, and re-inventing oneself is crucial for all artists. I might just lose it if the Ghanian Dancehall King comes with anything hate related anytime soon.
