The experience of enjoying whisky goes beyond the taste alone. It’s also the way the bottle feels in your hand, and how it connects you to the craft and intention behind it. From the bottle’s weight to the aroma that rises as you pour, every single detail shapes the experience. This April, The Macallan introduced a new visual identity for its Double Cask and Sherry Oak collections in Nigeria. The rollout includes a series of events titled “The Macallan 360 Experience” across Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt. There has been no change to the beloved whisky, just its presentation: carefully reimagined, new and improved to enhance the experience.
Below are 5 ways the bottle redesign elevates the tasting experience:
1. The Bottle Shape Tells a Story
The new bottle design, inspired by the sweeping roof of The Macallan Distillery in Speyside, balances modern elegance with the brand’s heritage. The new bottle is taller, with broader shoulders and a sleeker base. The design elevates presentation and makes sharing a drink a more engaging experience.
2. The Back Label is a Mini Tasting Guide
Each bottle features a David Carson-designed back label that highlights key tasting notes alongside a cask origin graphic. You can quickly see whether the whisky was matured in American oak, European oak, or both, which gives context to flavours like vanilla, dried fruit, ginger, or citrus. Whether you’re a collector or discovering the whisky for the first time, the redesign makes it easier to understand its character.
3. Colour Hints at Flavour
The redesign uses colour as a visual cue. The Double Cask Collection’s white and red palette reflects the balance of American and European oak that produces its smooth, creamy profile. The Sherry Oak Collection adopts a rich red that signals depth and complexity, in line with its European oak maturation and darker natural hue. The system provides a clear way to navigate the range without needing to be an expert.
4. Sustainability Meets Premium Design
The new packaging is fully recyclable. The foiling and plastic have been removed and glass weight has been optimised without sacrificing a satisfying heft. Wooden closures with natural cork and new tin capsules refine the tactile experience. The updates prioritise sustainability without compromising the premium feel, showing that luxury and responsibility can coexist.
5. Prestige Bottles Make an Impression
The 18, 25, and 30-year-old expressions have special presentations. The 18-year-old is presented in a rigid box matching the core range for cohesion. The 25 and 30-year-old bottles feature wooden boxes stained to reflect the oak influence inside: lighter for American oak, darker for European oak. The packaging communicates the character of the whisky before the first pour, making these bottles ideal for collectors or gifting.
This redesign shows that innovation does not require changing the whisky itself. Instead, it offers new ways to appreciate and understand it. Lagos got the first look on Friday April 17, 2026, when The Macallan unveiled the Timeless Collection at The Anthonia by Civic Centre, Victoria Island. A select group of Nigeria’s most discerning tastemakers gathered to celebrate, with award-winning artist Adekunle Gold performing. The bottles are now making their way onto shelves, lounges and private collections across Nigeria. Same exceptional whisky, presented in a fresh way that reflects its craftsmanship.
