Afro-Tech Girls has teamed up with Vamp AI to launch a groundbreaking 5-week Resume Challenge—one of several initiatives aimed at equipping 5,000 young African women with career readiness skills to match their technical expertise.
Why This Matters
For years, Afro-Tech Girls has trained women aged 18–35 in in-demand skills like UI/UX design, cloud computing, frontend development, and data science, with support from partners including IHS Nigeria and Stutern. But one challenge kept surfacing: while participants were technically skilled, many struggled to present those skills effectively on resumes, portfolios, and in interviews.
The Resume Challenge was designed to bridge that gap—turning technical training into real career opportunities.
The Afro-Tech Girls x Vamp AI Solution
Enter Vamp AI, a platform that helps startups and global companies hire, manage, and pay remote African talent with ease. Together, Afro-Tech Girls and Vamp designed a program tailored to women’s career journeys.
-
Out of 600 applicants, 340 participants were selected.
-
Each received one-on-one portfolio reviews, access to Vamp AI’s career tools, and interactive workshops.
-
By the end of the program, 97% felt confident in creating resumes and portfolios, while 72% reported increased confidence in their career prospects.
More Than Templates
The program went beyond cookie-cutter advice. Sessions featured insider strategies from seasoned professionals:
“Your portfolio is your silent ambassador. Make sure it speaks clearly, conveniently, and authentically.” — Ope Odunlami
“Don’t ever stop practising interviewing, because it is going to be valuable at every stage.” — Prisca Anuolam
These weren’t just motivational quotes—they were practical strategies for breaking into and thriving in tech careers.
Building a Global Talent Pipeline
For Vamp AI, the Resume Challenge is part of a larger mission: transforming Africa’s untapped talent into a globally recognised workforce. The partnership ensures companies in Lagos, London, or San Francisco can hire African professionals who are both technically skilled and career-ready.
Future programs include targeted mentorship, career accelerator bootcamps, and direct talent placement into startups and scaleups seeking remote African talent.
