Tochi Bedford has been a significant presence in Nigeria’s Alté scene since 2020. Working initially with artists like Dndsection and Odunsi The Engine, he soon began to garner attention from other artists in the Alté scene culminating in the Cruel Santino collab Disintegrate. Some of his most notable production credits include his work on Cruel Santino’s 2022 album, Subaru Boys: FINAL HEAVEN, and Amaarae’s critically acclaimed LP Fountain Baby (Princess Going Digital and Sex, Violence, Suicide)
2018 is a rambunctious bop with glistening arpeggiated keys underpinned by scattered drums and thumping 808s. Tochi Bedford’s vocals are boisterous and jubilant, detailing his personal growth and developed confidence over the past 6 years. Rising underground figure Len provides the track with a slick and stylish verse, laced with wit and braggadocio.
Speaking on the song and working with Len, Bedford said;
“So like most of my songs, this is just me telling my story, and it’s a story of how I’ve changed from 2018 till now. Literally everything from the way I look to the way I dress has changed. I feel like it’s an important story to tell as I let people in on my life. Working with Len on this was really the best, he’s made the whole process smooth! We were even able to shoot a music vid in a day once he came to Lagos. Also, his verse is hard af. I’ve worked with Len before on other tracks that sounded amazing, but as a producer. This is our first one with me as an artist.”
