Ayra Starr Brings Nollywood Babe Energy In New Ckay-Assisted ‘Beggie Beggie’ Video

Coming off a successful launch year in 2021 with the release of her debut album 19 & Dangerous which has attracted global critical acclaim, Ayra Starr is back with a new video for Beggie Beggie. Assisted by fellow Nigerian CKay, she taps into the fierce, assertive, take-no-shit attitude of the female protagonists of old movies.
Directed by Director K and set at a house party, the video starts with the 19-year singer-songwriter as a vulnerable young man begging her man to leave his ladies for her. By the end, the singer is the ultimate vengeful Nollywood babe who decides to take matters into her own hands. With her magnetic blend of Afro-pop, alté style and storytelling ability, Starr tells a familiar story of a frustrated woman dating a player type.
On the inspiration for the Nollywood-inspired visual, Starr said,
“Old Nollywood has had some of the biggest impact on Gen-Z fashion and style. I thought it would be fun and beautiful to re-create that era and its influence on pop culture as a whole. ‘Beggie Beggie’ is not just a sad song, it’s about a young woman seeing things for what they are.”
