Buhari Signs Not Too Young to Run Bill.

Victoryyyyyyyyy!

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday signed the “Not Too Young To Run” bill into law in the presence of selected youth invited to observe proceedings.

Speaking briefly after signing the law, the President quipped that “You can aspire for President but please postpone your campaign till after 2019 election.”

The new law is aimed at relaxing the age restrictions for potential political aspirants.  The bill was passed by the National Assembly last year to alter Sections 65, 106, 131, 177 of the constitution. It was to reduce the age qualification for president from 40 to 30; governor from 35 to 30; senator from 35 to 30; House of Representatives membership from 30 to 25 and State House of Assembly membership from 30 to 25.

This piece of news will lack substance without saluting the work done by the Not Too Young To Run political advocacy group who started the campaign for the change and effectively, began a process which has now borne result.

Here’s to many more well thought out campaigns and young people killing it in politics.
