We often talk about how in the Nigerian creative scene, anything done outside Lagos doesn’t get as much appreciation as it should. That’s why an artist like Burna Boy who despite becoming one of the best things in Port Harcourt was not considered in the conversation of upper echelon acts until he conquered the Lagos ears. Or why someone like Phyno’s annual Phynofest is not a much bigger deal. As a result, many artists only deliver Lagos shows and occasionally, they make the trip to Abuja, Warri and Port Harcourt. Then again, you can’t blame them, if they don’t feel confident they’ll pull a crowd in Ebonyi, then should they really go to Ebonyi if someone hasn’t booked them for a performance there? As Chocolate City readies itself for a 16 state (FCT included) Nigerian tour, you can be confident that they’re not too pressed about the same things as the rest of Nigeria’s music scene.
Announcing their Control The Economy tour which will see MI, Dice Ailes, DJ Lambo, Yung L and Ckay touch states like Ekiti, Imo, Nassarawa, it just might be the biggest scale anyone has done it in recent history in Nigeria.
