‘Original Copy’ Is Cuppy’s Reintroduction To The World As A Nonconformist

Cuppy has never been the poster girl for good music since she debuted the Tekno assisted Green Light in 2017 and this stemmed from the fact that her unusual approach to music did not conform to the standards set in the industry. The DJ turned Singer is undeniably a rabble-rouser whose can-do attitude and charming persona have afforded her an interesting spot in the industry and this week, it cumulates into her debut twelve-track album metaphorically titled Original Copy, a journey itself that has seen several stops but has arrived in a timely fashion at the best of stops.

To Cuppy, this album is fashioned in such a way that her freedom and mode of expression are a priority, next to an acknowledgment of what her fans want and what is currently in vogue. These are the factors that influence the backgrounds of all the tracks and it is also through their existence her confidence and vigor shine through. It’s evident from the earlier released Rema and Rayvanny assisted Jollof On The Jet with it’s catchy and now popular hook and also, the Darkovibes assisted Cold Heart Killer, on which Cuppy’s never-before-heard sultry vocals come to light. Afropop embodiment, Litty lit featuring Teni, the rush of energy on Wyclef Jean assisted Wale are stunners that reveal a very sound-aware Cuppy we didn’t know existed. Part of this design is her undaring attitude and people like Nonso Amadi and Fireboy DML foster this on tracks like Guilty Pleasure and Feel Good respectively. On Original Copy, there is a song for every variation of Cuppy and everybody.

Through short but very impactful years of experience as an artist, Cuppy has developed a thick skin which contrary to public opinion has made her more receptive evidenced in the tuneful fashionable sounds she utilizes on the album. She’s also unapologetic and a nonconformist, and with these characteristics, she has navigated the industry and earned herself mass appeal with a twelve-track debut that drowns out the noise that surrounded her brand since she stepped onto the scene as a musician in 2017.
