Nigeria and South Africa by virtue of being two of the most economically prosperous Anglophone countries on the continent are key markets in defining what is hot or not on the broader African level. This is encapsulated by the recent unification of the Amapiano genre of music built as an offshoot of the SA Dance scene. Nigerian artists like the great fusion merchants that they are have taken elements of the sound and infused it with Nigerian flavor.
For Focalistic and Davido who found success earlier in the year with the Ke Star remix, a bid is made for the end of year charts with Champion Sound- an allusion to the potency of their partnership. Champion Sound marks Davido’s first single post the release of last year’s A Better Time potentially hinting at his next musical direction while Focalistic’s recent enlistment with talent agency, The Plug could also be taken as an indication of a reinforced presence in the local market.
