End of Season Review: Best Goalkeeper

Posted on

Timi Iwayemi: David De Gea was sensational all season long making save after save. The Spaniard won games all by himself for the Red Devils with great individual performances. He may not have the most clean sheets in the league this season but like they say football goes deeper than statistics. His actions this season have led to many reports linking him to the Spanish giants Real Madrid but United are desperate for their star goalkeeper to stay put.

Oluwamayowa Idowu: David de Gea. Worthy of all the plaudits and the impending move back to Spain.

Michael Famoroti: The general standard of goalkeeping has been exceptionally high this year. Joe Hart rediscovered his best form while Forster, Courtois and Fabianski have starred for their new clubs. The obvious choice is David De Gea. His distribution and reflexes were never in doubt (and were on show again this season) and he has married those to greater consistency, more assured communication and flawless concentration. At this point he is nearly the finished article and will be missed if he goes to Madrid. At least Saint Iker would have a worthy successor.

Somto Mbah: Lionel Messi once described Fraser Forster as the best goalkeeper he’d faced after Celtic defeated Barcelona 1-0 despite 11% ball possession. Forster ensured he would be the best goalkeeper every PL team would face this season.

He was a calming presence in the league’s best defence (Southampton conceded only 33 goals). Injured on matchweek 30, his 13 clean sheets were only bested by Joe Hart on the last day of the season. Without a doubt, the Golden Glove would be his had he not gotten injured.

Dami Etomi: David De Gea. Not much debate here. He performed incredibly over the course of the season. It is ridiculous to think that less than three years ago he was competing for a starting place with Anders Lindegaard. Now, 3 time Champions League winner Victor Valdes can barely get a game. His performances inevitably led to rumours of Real Madrid attempting to acquire him for what would be a record goal keeper fee.
