Ahead of the release of her official yearbook for 2024, FilmOne Entertainment, a leading Nigerian film production, marketing and distribution outfit, has unveiled her box office scoreboard for the previous year. The scoreboard is a concise representation of the metrics and commercial successes of both Nollywood and non-Nollywood titles in the domestic cinemas.
According to the scoreboard, there were 73 Nollywood releases and 74 Hollywood releases. Out of a total 204 titles released, 15 titles made above 200 million naira while Nollywood titles generated over 100 million naira. Altogether, they made 11.58 billion naira in box office revenue. Of all the titles, Nollywood had a market share of 46% whereas Hollywood recorded 52% market share.
Funke Akindele’s Everybody Loves Jenifa, her latest installment in the Jenifa franchise, emerged the highest-grossing grossing Nollywood title of 2024. By 31 December 2024, the comedy drama film had made at least 1.125 billion naira, to win the top spot for the year. The film would go on to become the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time hitting a historic 1.466 billion naira. While still at the cinemas, it has surpassed the feat of A Tribe Called Judah, a 2023 production of Akindele’s. This makes Akindele the producer of the top four all-time highest-grossing Nollywood films—the other two films being Battle On Buka Street and Omo Ghetto: The Saga.
As per Nigeria box office ranking 2024, the highest-grossing Nollywood films of the year includes Queen Lateefah (365 million naira), Ajosepo (257 million naira), Beasts of Two Worlds (253 million naira), Alakada! Bad and Boujee (229 million) and Lakatabu (202 minion naira), among others.
FilmOne’s 2024 scoreboard reveals Deadpool & Wolverine as the highest-grossing Hollywood title and Moana 2 as the highest-grossing animation. Meanwhile, EbonyLife Cinema was the highest-grossing cinema location but FilmOne Entertainment held her place as the highest-grossing film distributor in the country with her cinemas equally emerging the highest-grossing cinema chain. In December 2024, FilmOne recorded the highest revenue for a single month across the year with 2.8 billion naira.
On Instagram, FilmOne announced: “2024 was a year of bold moves, big wins, and unforgettable moments in the film industry. Celebrate progress, impact, and triumphs.” While another year in Nollywood is already in motion, FilmOne will seek to outdo her antecedents and drive film distribution to the next level.
