There are going to be some rather tasty Nollywood releases feast this January, and we have narrowed them down to five projects that we think would be worth your while.
Shanty Town

What’s it about? A six part crime thriller series, Shanty Town follows the story of three Lagos State hustlers who unite to wage war against the biggest and most ruthless crime ring in the state. Featuring Ini Edo, Chidi Mokeme, Sola Sobowale, Peter of P Square, Nancy Isime, The show will premiere on Netflix on January 20th.
The Trade

What’s it about? The Trade follows the story of Dike Maduka, aka Eric, a notorious genius billionaire kidnapper, who ravaged the southern part of Nigeria for several years. After evading arrest for two decades, a fast rising police officer and head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Superintendant Khalid Abubakar leads a high-stakes investigation into the famous kidnapper’s activities. Directed by Jade Osiberu and featuring Blossom Chukwujekwu, Rita Dominic, Emeka Nwagbaraocha and more.
The Wait

What’s it about? Inspired by Waiting Room a faith-based book by Nigerian lawyer, Yewande Zaccheaus, The Wait is an emotional and suspense-filled thriller that follows the lives of different individuals and families as they try to navigate the disappointments and obstacles on their fertility journey. The film stars Nse Ikpe Etim, Inidima Okojie, Deyemi Okanlawon and more. It drops on Netflix on January 13th.
All Na Vibes

What’s it about? Taiwo Egunjobi’s 2021 directed urban drama, All Na Vibes, is set in present day Ibadan against the backdrop of a crippling university strike and an undercurrent of political unrest. Three out of school teenagers- Abiola, Lamidi and Sade- grapple with varied existential crises on what’s next with their lives. It stars Tope Tedela and Jide Kosoko and premieres on Netflix on January 27.
