Months ago, DC MC, Goldlink found his way to the Alternative scene in the Nigerian music industry through Santi who has not only served as a worthy pipeline but gotten his fair share of the former’s wicked and memorable flow. Once Goldlink got in, he was smitten by perhaps the limited but intricately beautiful Afrobeat sound. His journey with Afro Pop started with Maleek Berry who delivered a memorable hook on Zulu Screams, followed by an impressive verse on Santi’s Maria. This week, it reaches its peak in form of 3 tracks powered by 3 Nigerian artists on his just released album titled, Diaspora.
Zulu Screams, the album’s first single and fifth track was only a tip of the iceberg as the 14-track project – which features Khalid, Pusha T and WSTRN among others – is a goldmine of tracks aimed to satisfy every kind of craving and blend with every mood. No Lie which features Wizkid is your typical mid-tempo summer jam filled with quotable punchlines while U Say, powered by Tyler The Creator and Jay Prince is a faster and more native version of the former.
Goldlink has never been an average Rapper and his decision to spread his wings and delve into different cultures only builds on his versatility and the strength and talent of Wizkid, Tyler and Maleek Berry, all of whom delivered almost perfectly.
