For years, Mavin Record failed to top the quality of music and stars Don Jazzy oversaw during the Mo Hits days. With not more than a handful of hit singles and permanently placed stars, several theories arose to explain the label’s inability to properly stake its claims in the industry but this year, the label is pushing with a force stronger than it has in since its 2014 when it produced the likes of Korede Bello, Reekado Banks and hit singles like Dorobucci and Adaobi.
With Ladipoe’s Hip-hop takeover, Rema’s debut and Crayon’s induction, the label is moving forward and to solidify their moves, they pair the duo of Crayon and Ladipoe for a mellow EDM, Afro and Hip-hop hybrid titled Based On Kpa.
On the Altims produced single, Crayon takes the lead by opening with a sleek verse after which Ladipoe breezes in with sensual but edgy bars that not only blends with the atmospheric soundscape but will have you moving to its rhythm in no time. The duo takes the mellow energy to the equally sensual video that follows the plot of a steamy social media romance.
Don Jazzy is not putting his eggs in one basket this time and with moves like this, very soon the label could reclaim its place of prominence.
