Nigeria’s hip-hop scene is rife with artists whose uncertainty about the path to follow reflects in their music. One artist who has managed to toe the lines of mainstream music while maintaining his originality is Ladi Poe. His debut Album, Talk About Poe is proof of this and ever since it’s release, he has widened his scope with more releases alluding to the power of his non-conforming but widely accepted nature. After T.A.P, comes the Video for its follow-up, the Johnny Drille produced Jaiye – a song that beautifully paints life in Lagos using rhythmic Punchlines on springy instrumentals.
The Seun Opabisi and Kewa Oni directed Video tracks Ladipoe’s journey through the crevices of Lagos as he proves to us in more ways than one that he indeed wants to Jaiye.
Trailblazing through the streets of Lagos is an activity that feels more like a Chore but Ladipoe manages to make it seem like an adventure worth experiencing and for a moment, we forget that life here in Lagos is hard and maybe we should just make the most of it while having fun.
