The Set Up, the latest film from Nollywood’s most bankable director, Niyi Akinmolayan, has grossed ₦21 million after just five days in cinemas. According to COMSCORE box office records, the film grossed ₦10.5 million over the weekend. Only Bolanle Austen-Peter’s The Bling Lagosians has done better weekend numbers this year.

An excited Akinmolayan tweeted: “You guys came through for me on The Wedding Party 2 [and] Chief Daddy. It is obvious you are doing it again. You have all made me a believer in myself (maybe I won’t quit after all). Thank you. Now, what’s better than 21 million in 5 days… 100 million in 20 days… let’s do it.”

Considering the raving reviews and building word-of-mouth, The Set Up is on its way to becoming the second Nollywood ₦100 million grosser of the year, following The Bling Lagosians.

The Set Up follows the story of a young woman, Chike, who gets more than she bargains for and is drawn into a web of deceit when a socialite hires her to aid his scheme of marrying a wealthy heiress. The film is currently showing in cinemas nationwide.
