Did you know that there are approximately 4.66 billion active internet users worldwide? Can you imagine all the different ways in which we all use the internet? Obasanjo’s Internet is our interview series where we speak to some of our internet favorites on how they relate to the internet and what it means to them and their work. This week, we are joined by Chemical Brother, an influencer and content creator.
What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
I check the time and pray, not always sha and then I check my calendar.
How do you use the internet for work or pleasure?
Started with pleasure then I started making a lot of money from it but I got overwhelmed and now it’s basically mixed but I mostly use the internet for learning and fun now.
What moment or episode in your life would you say captured the essence of the internet?
It’s hard to select but the eye opener for me was when I went on a break sometime in 2017 and someone went out of their way to look for me. Apparently he was suicidal and my timeline was usually an escape for him. I was just tweeting random funny stuff at that time and I never realised how much it meant to people so I came back. I’ve had a couple of experiences similar to this since then.
Your favourite social media platform and why?
I know people would think Twitter but WhatsApp takes it for me. I use it to keep in touch with my family and friends, it’s my most private social media platform.
What was the last meme you saved?
Do you remember the first time something you posted went viral? What was it? How did it make you feel?
December 2016. I locked my account and went offline because I had just 90 followers and I was so anxious that people were following me. After 2 weeks I came back and that same week went viral again. Contemplated deleting my account but I was told I was funny by my crush so I didn’t.
What’s the most outrage you have ever generated over something you posted? How did you react to it?
E choke. It’s actually plenty. The most recent one is when I said Basketball is a better sport than football. When they were cooking me, I was laughing as usual.
What rules do you live by on the internet?
Never take anybody seriously, don’t be too serious, and never have role models online. Also, amala is mid.
What is your guiltiest online pleasure?
I’m afraid I can’t answer this because people will flood it and it won’t be fun anymore. Let me gate keep this one time.
Would you say you have an online persona?
Yes!
What’s your favorite emoji and why?
🥺Because it looks so innocent, persuasive, and sexy.
Are you particular about your feed?
Yes. I like to control what I see and to an extent what I put out.
YouTube or TikTok?
YouTube because they’ve paid me money.
Which Nigerian creator do you think the world needs to see and hear more of?
Senior man OA, Ditweni, Igbo Wolf.
Who is the coolest person you follow and the coolest person who follows you?
Since I can’t follow myself, the coolest person I follow has to be Wizkid and the coolest person that follows me has to be my crush.
What is your favorite Nigerian podcast?
ISWIS
Have you ever hooked up with someone you met online?
E be like.
5 people you’d love to see answer these questions
Malik, Ajibola Grey, Onion Cider, Aunty Ada and Beardless Smallie.
