In the last decade, the Detty December period where IJGB’s and those based in the country intersect during the boisterous party season has become the busiest period of the burgeoning music industry. Years are immortalized by the smash hits that define them like 2016’s Mad Over You.
Last December, both Reekado Banks and Fireboy DML challenged creditably for the Detty December throne. Banks with Ozumba Mbadiwe and Fireboy with Peru. Today, they combine forces on the remix to Ozumba Mbadiwe- the Amapiano inspired record from the Banks vault which became memorable for its paying homage to the 2020 End SARS protests, a witty response to the African Giant after their snafu while paying homage to essentially, one of the most prominent street locations in Lagos Island.
The remix is built around the original instrumental and first verse with Fireboy offering his “Won ni won wa mi” chant from Peru to Reekado’s “So I hear say dem dey find me” before taking over at the second verse where he starts by boastfully referencing his breakout and ascendance to the high table of Nigerian music before speaking of the difficulties of making it in Lagos and the essence of being paid as at when due.
