Following the release of his deluxe version of his EP The Second Wave which had 3 new songs added, serial bad boy and Jonzing World Entertainment signee Ruger is back once again with 2 new singles released side by side: Red Flags and Asiwaju. Initially meant to drop on the 4th of November, Red Flags’ release date was pushed back due to the loss of Davido’s son and other unfortunate events that happened at the time.
On October 26th Ruger dropped the first official teaser for Red Flags which featured Big Brother season 7 ex housemate and 2nd runner up Bella Okagbue acting as a video vixen. After pushing Red Flags back to a new date Ruger apologized for making his fans wait too long for new music and decided to add a second single Asiwaju to the initial drop and teased the record with a now viral teaser of him singing the song. In the caption for the teaser shared to his Instagram, Ruger apologized for the inconvenience of letting his fans listen to “noise” and stated that as the reason for releasing both songs at the same time instead of the previously announced single drop.
Red Flags was produced by TS Boy and mixed by Adam Lunn while Asiwaju was produced by Kukbeatz aka Kukuruku who has been responsible for the production on every Ruger record so far; with the release of Asiwaju further solidifying their unique producer artist partnership. “You saw the red flags baby / But you ignored the red flags / Now you’re here baby you come dey vex / See I can’t change baby you better rest / Or you end this now” Ruger sings on the catchy Red Flags chorus as he discusses the predicament his partner put herself in.
Shot by Double Or Nothing Productions in the UK, the new Red Flags music video was styled by Neesha Sharma and sees Ruger embody the “you’re not the only one, got several bitches” line from the song. In the video Ruger is seen on dates with 3 different women and towards the ending of the video while shooting with one of the women the other two cause a scene while Ruger flees the scene without being seen.
