Nigerian Indigenous brand, Rekana has recently launched a new collection and short film at the New York Fashion Week, one of the most prominent fashion week events in the world. The brain behind the brand, Sharon Ojong, describes this project as inspired by real people with real stories, and real clothing made with eco-friendly fabrics using low-impact materials for our tie-dye process.
Founded in 2018, the brand was established to bridge the gap between African prints and elements and modern clothing. The Children of God collection embodies these elements featuring bright colored tie-dye patterns in functional gender-neutral clothing. Since its inception, the brand has also promoted sustainability and individuality and these are major themes of the collection.
The fashion short film reinforces Rekana’s commitment to telling authentic stories, through fashion and film. Children of God,utilizes imagery, and engages the audience’s senses through the course of the story, spotlighting the richness of all nineteen of the pieces, whilst transporting the viewers through an immersive storytelling journey.
