In a remarkable turn of events, Multichoice, the owners of Digital Satellite Television (DStv), have just finalized comprehensive arrangements to broadcast the highly anticipated Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Cote d’Ivoire 2023 on their dedicated sports channel, SuperSport. The initial stance of the company indicated a reluctance to air the tournament due to the purported absence of broadcasting rights, raised eyebrows. It was reported that New World TV had secured the sole rights, leading to speculations about the absence of AFCON on DStv.
However, news breaking on several DSTV social media platforms has since quelled such concerns. SuperSport is now officially slated to showcase all 52 games of the expanded 24-team AFCON 2023, commencing on the 13th of January 2023 with the opening match between hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau.
Insider information regarding the arrangements reveals that SuperSport’s broadcasting rights are non-exclusive. This means that the coverage will be accessible to a wide audience, available on most bouquets on both DStv and GOtv. This development not only resolves the earlier uncertainty surrounding AFCON’s coverage on DStv but also ensures that fans across different subscription levels will have the opportunity to enjoy the entirety of the prestigious tournament.
