Fashion Award Nominees

The British Fashion Council has revealed who is up for an accolade this December with each of them recognized for their creative excellence and innovation.

The Fashion Awards represents fashion’s most inspiring emerging and established talents, this list is the perfect showcase for the energy and diversity of the industry today. Among the household names on the list, a few newcomers will be competing alongside veterans and the industry’s favorites.

Albeit, the nominee’s list is dominated by the European faces behind luxury fashion houses like Prada and Gucci — we are rooting for these African nominees to take some prizes home.

Adut Akech — Model of the Year

At just 18 years old, the Sudanese-born Adut Akech has made a name for herself as one of the most prominent new faces in the industry. She’s walked for Saint Laurent’s, been embraced by Karl Lagerfeld, mentored by Naomi Campbell, and featured in the much-coveted Pirelli Calendar.

Adwoa Aboah — Model of the Year

Adwoa Aboah is one of the most popular models in the industry right now. She has been the face of a number of notable brands, such as Giorgio Armani and Burberry —  and she represents diversity in the modeling industry.

Virgil Abloh — Designer of the Year (Himself for Louis Vuitton), Brand of the Year & Urban Luxe (Off-White)

Highlighted by Business of Fashion as one of the 500 people currently shaping the fashion industry, Virgil Abloh is definitely deserving of the three nominations he and his brand, Off-White have received this year.

He also made history as the first black artistic director of Louis Vuitton Menswear.
