The Smart Money Woman by Arese Ugwu is every young woman’s social guide. Most of us have had this love-hate relationship with money that fluctuates between blissful bae-dom and extreme catfishing. One day, you have big plans(#MissIndependent) and the next you’re one of those people that come up on our feed with that corny post that reads “May we have the money we need to buy all the things we’ve screenshot” (smh). I’d laugh but it’s a common struggle so I’ll just be humble and give you the scoop already.
The Smart Money Woman book tells the interesting story of urban gals Zuri, Lara, Adesuwa, Ladun and Tami. The book tackles, debt, spending, the consumerist culture of the African middle class, the fear and misconceptions surrounding money and the lack of it, love, friendships, cultural and societal pressures and the roles they play in success. More importantly, it is becoming a series! If Arese isn’t a girl’s girl, then I don’t know who is.
The half-hour, 13-episode series will feature these winning screen divas that we’ve come to love; Osas Ighodaro (“Merry Men, Bling Lagosians”), Toni Tones (“ King Of Boys”, “Your Excellency”), Ini-Dima Okojie (“Sylvia, Who’s the Boss”), Lala Akindoju (“Your Excellency, Fine”), Eby Eno (“Last Days”) as the main cast. Also featuring are Eso Okolocha (“Forbidden Fruit”), Timini Egbuson (“Elevator Baby”), Karibi Fubara God Calling , Ratnik”), Tope Tedela (“Ratnik, The Ghost and the House of Truth”), Seun Ajayi (“God Calling, The Lost Okoroshi”) and Temisan Emmanuel. The series will also have many unexpected twists than were in the book so you may want to start turning on those notifications in time for September already!
The series is directed by Bunmi Ajakaiye and co-produced by Kemi Lala Akindoju, Akintunde Marinho and Arcadia TV Africa. Season One of the Smart Money Woman TV Show is powered by First Bank and supported by Unilever, Virgin Atlantic and Pernod Ricard.
