Nigerian singer and songwriter Uchenna Nwachukwu more commonly referred to as Uche Malik has released his new EP Nwa Owerri. The 5 song project in Uche’s words is “the story of the Owerri Gangsta.” As a proud Owerri boy, Uche’s new EP is an Afrofusion project that blends RnB and soul to create irresistible melodies.

Following the release of his sophomore EP JIGGY BOY last year, Nwa Owerri (which means Owerri’s son) seeks to reinstate Uche’s position in this new wave of Afrobeats and Afrofusion. From tracks like Gangsta Riddim to Rizza! to Kolo, Uche invites the listener into the world of an ‘Owerri Gangsta.’ With lines such as “Come see what the Gangsta do, we can have a private party,” from Gangsta Riddim, “She call me Afro singer, Naija jigga,” from Rizza!, “She don kolo, I make the girls kolo, Owerri boy say na me you wan follow,” from Kolo, Uche reminds us how proud he is of his heritage.

Uche released his first single in 2019, an Afropop song titled Superwoman. He released the song as an independent artiste and followed up with another single, a Hip-hop song titled Nikes. He has since consistently released songs that have positioned him as one of the emerging acts to look out for in contemporary Afrobeats. He has collaborated with illustrious names such as Blaqbonez and David Melii.

The lead single off the EP, Rizza!, was released earlier this year on the 18th of February, and Uche was signed by Management Service, Active Entertainment Group in May.
