At the forefront of Modern AfroRnB in Nigeria, is Nigerian-American singer, songwriter, and audio engineer, WANI, best known for melding the RnB sensibilities of his Western nationality with the globally dominating soundscape of contemporary Nigerian music. In today’s globally interconnected world, many artists are lauded for their ability to subvert genres, but WANI’s distinct vocal delivery, his consistent lover-boy lyricism, his penchant for sampling, and his unique approach to fusion have set him apart in the multi-generational alternative music scene. It’s for these reasons, his debut, Lagos City Vice I, was such a hit. Today, after months away from the scene, solo, he returns with the first single off the second installment of his Lagos City Vice series, Times Two (X2).
Joined by the man of the moment, Buju, Times Two (X2), the lead single off Lagos City Vice II, boasts a funky Spanish guitar riff underscoring the pair’s delectable RnB suited vocals as they share different perspectives on love, time, money, and how they choose to balance it all with fame.
Speaking about the road to Lagos City Vice II being led by the Higo produced Times Two X2, WANI said:
“It‘s been a long road leading up to the release of my project Lagos City Vice II. But we’re almost at the finish line and I’m finally feeling ready. Times Two is the perfect vibe to kick off the summer. We’ve worked on a lot of music, but this is the one track we decided to put out for the people, especially with the current climate, everything slowly opening back up again, might as well give the people something to dance to.”
